Spencer hails Robins tactics

Striker James Spencer thinks Cheltenham's formation has played a crucial role in their impressive rise up League Two.

The Robins sit third in the table as the season approaches its halfway stage, rubbishing pre-season predictions from some pundits that the Whaddon Road outfit would be fighting relegation this term. And Spencer, on loan from Huddersfield, has pointed to manager Mark Yates' team blueprint as a major reason for their success. "The formation has played a big part in it I think," he said. "We play with a 4-5-1 away from home and that allows five players in midfield to get behind the ball when we're defending, and when we're attacking that turns into a 4-3-3 and it's been working well for us. "It allows the wide players to push up a bit and cause problems and so far it's been good."
