Notts County captain Neal Bishop will return to action in Friday's pre-season friendly against Mansfield.
Bishop's return follows his recovery from a hernia operation in May.
The 29-year-old has only recently resumed training but has been working hard to emulate his outstanding form of last season.
Magpies boss Martin Allen told the Nottingham Evening Post: "It's a big boost because he's our captain and leader. He's an influential character. When you don't have good players you miss them.
"Some of our young players have come into the team and done very well but they are still gaining experience. We need our senior players to get up to top speed.
"We're not sure yet how big a part Neal will play at Mansfield but he will be involved."
He added: "He's worked hard to get back and has achieved a good base-level of fitness by working with the physio before he returned to training."
