Skipper Neal Bishop revealed he would be celebrating survival in hospital after the 1-1 draw with champions Brighton.
The visitors went ahead in an entertaining first half thanks to a curled effort from the lively Ashley Barnes.
Yet County levelled before the break as Craig Westcarr's cross was deflected into his own net by Seagulls skipper Gordon Greer.
Bishop, who is scheduled for a much-delayed hernia operation, said: "I'm going in on Tuesday afternoon and will be out on Wednesday, but it's not just me who has been playing with an injury - quite a few of the lads have knocks."
Results elsewhere ensured the Magpies' safety, and Bishop added: "The gaffer didn't tell us the scores elsewhere but we had a good idea considering the fans were singing when we were losing 1-0.
"It would have left a bitter taste to lose as in the second half there was only one team in it, and if we had been a bit more clinical we could have won it."
