Winger could be back in action in a month

Scunthorpe United boss Ian Baraclough is hopeful injured winger Garry Thompson could make a playing return inside a month. The winger is recuperating after groin surgery and could be back in action for the final matches of the Championship campaign. Thompson scored in the Iron's 2-1 win at Reading on the opening day of the season but injury has limited him to just 12 further appearances. The Championship strugglers suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Cardiff on Saturday and Thompson's return before the summer would be a welcome boost. "I've spoken to him in the last couple of days and the operation has gone well," he told the club's official website. "The consultant is pleased. He's gone though a procedure which hopefully will see him back in three or four weeks if everything goes right. "That would be a big boost for us at an important time."
