No Short shrift for Pearce

Craig Short will give Krystian Pearce the opportunity to establish himself at the heart of Notts County's defence.

The 20-year-old made his first league start at centre-back alongside Graeme Lee as the Magpies won 4-0 against Yeovil on Saturday. Short was so impressed that he is set to stick with Pearce ahead of two of the club's vastly more experienced central defenders - Notts' longest-serving player Mike Edwards and Liam Chilvers, one of his high-profile summer signings. "There is no way I can leave him out now," said Short. "I want to have a settled team and want players to know that if they perform well they will stay in my team. "Krystian has got everything and he is only 20. He is an outstanding athlete and he is so strong. He works really hard and he has got a great attitude. He is only going to get better. "He will have a long career at a high level, but he is not one of those lads who will get carried away. He just wants to play and learn and he will learn by playing alongside an experienced player like Graeme Lee."
