Roberts set for Pride Park switch

Derby have announced the signing of Gareth Roberts from Championship rivals Doncaster Rovers. As revealed by skysports.com earlier this month, Derby have lined up a move for Roberts on a free transfer when his contract expires later this summer. Derby are believed to have made an attractive offer to lure the Welshman away from the Keepmoat Stadium and Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll conceded they could compete financially with the Pride Park outfit. Former Tranmere star Roberts has agreed a two-year deal at Derby and Rams boss Nigel Clough is delighted to land the experienced stopper. "Gareth is an accomplished and steady defender at Championship level and we are really pleased he has chosen to join us," Clough told the club's official website. Roberts could be an ideal replacement for Jay McEveley, who has left Derby upon the expiration of his contract.
