Walsall defender urges team-mate to sign deal

Manny Smith has been urged to stay at Walsall by fellow defender Rhys Weston. Smith was offered a new deal almost a month ago but has not yet committed his future to the club. Saddlers manager Chris Hutchings has now issued a final ultimatum to Smith, along with Clayton Ince, Sofiene Zaaboub, Jabo Ibehre, Netan Sansara, Rene Gilmartin and Chris Palmer. He has told the players their offers will be withdrawn if they do not agree to put pen-to-paper. Weston is keen for Smith to remain with the club as he has been impressed by his team-mate's progression over the past 12 months. "Manny has proved himself to be a valuable asset during the course of the season and he got better and better with each game he played," Weston told the Express and Star. "He is still young and he has got a good chance of a decent career so hopefully he stays."
