Notts County have boosted their squad with new deals for two young players, Tommy Hannigan and Liam Needham.

20-year-old midfielder Needham has been handed a new one-year deal, while Hannigan has been given his first contract as a professional.

The 19-year-old central defender has been at Meadow Lane for three seasons as a scholar and was crowned Reserve Team Player of the Year for this season.

He had a spell on-loan at non-league Rugby earlier in the season before becoming a regular for County's reserves.

Hannigan has signed on at Meadow Lane until January 2007, when his contract will be reassessed.

Boss Gudjon Thordarson now has five players contracted for next season, following deals for Kevin Pilkington, David Pipe and Dan Martin.

County will be looking for a marked improvement on the narrow escape from relegation last campaign, as they finished 21st in League Two.
