Notts County have announced that Ruben Zadkovich's contract has been terminated, at the request of the player.
The League Two side received a letter from the player's agent on Monday asking for the midfielder's contract to be annulled.
Zadkovich has become increasingly homesick over the last four months and wishes to return to Australia.
County boss Gudjon Thordarson (pictured) is bitterly disappointed at the news of the players' imminent departure.
"I am very disappointed to hear this news, even more so because Ruben was to start the game at Northampton (in the LDV Vans trophy)," he told the club's official website.
"He will now not feature because we feel he is not in the right frame of mind to play.
"The matter will be dealt with tomorrow."
One player back in the Meadow Lane fold is defender Emmet Friars after Thordarson decided to call him back from his loan at non-league side AFC Telford United.
