Notts County shot-stopper Steve Mildenhall is set for three months on the sidelines after undergoing a hand operation.

The 25-year-old, who damaged a tendon in his thumb, will be in a cast for over a month and will miss their upcoming games against Wycombe and Rushden & Diamonds.

"I am looking at about 12 weeks on the sidelines," explained the keeper. "I will have the arm in a cast for about five weeks.

"It is fairly complex surgery. They took a ligament out of my forearm and replaced the one in my thumb, which had become dislocated again."

Despite being unavailable for the foreseeable future, Mildenhall is confident the side can stay in the Second Division this term.

"I think we will stay up," he added. "I am confident of that.

"We have been playing much better football since the new manager arrived and the win had on Saturday had been coming for some time."
