Ainsworth ready to look up

Having secured League Two safety, Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth has finally admitted that promotion is now their goal.

The Chairboys, who only stayed up on the final day last season, had been reluctant to talk of reaching the third tier despite having been in the top three for the majority of this campaign to date. But having beaten their pre-season target of 55 points talk has turned to a promotion battle. "By achieving League Two security, the lads have earned the right to have a real shot at promotion," Ainsworth told the club's official website. "Whilst the club's financial security is top of the agenda, risks on the playing field can now be taken." Chairman Andrew Howard added: "Gareth and his team have done an incredible job at pulling together such a close-knit and competitive group of players. "The aim was always survival, but the camaraderie and passion shown by everyone means we can now realistically push on to higher things."
