Ainsworth baffled by poor show

Gareth Ainsworth was "flabbergasted" at Wycombe's second-half collapse after a 2-0 loss at Newport moved them closer to the drop zone.

Christian Jolley and Chris Zebroski struck in the space of six minutes in the second-half at Rodney Parade to add Wycombe's away misery. The Chairboys are without a win in their last 6 games on the road and are now only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference ahead of Northampton, who they face next week. Wanderers manager Ainsworth said: "We had the majority of chances in the first half but I didn't recognise my team in the second. "I don't know what happened, we fell to pieces. We looked nervous and a team who didn't know each other. We were nowhere near the team that beat Dagenham & Redbridge last week. "I'm just flabbergasted at the second-half performance. "The nerves come from where we are in the league and we're a very young team. But we have been a young side all season and I thought that would give us legs and enthusiasm, but I didn't see either of those things today. "We were out-fought and in a scrappy game like that, you have to win your battles, your headers and tackles, but we didn't and we paid the price. That result has given us a real battle."
