Wycombe's summer signing Matt Spring is looking forward to his new team's opening game of the season more than most as he prepares to face one of his former clubs.
The 32-year-old made 53 appearances for Watford during a one-and-a-half year stay at Vicarage Road, helping the club earn promotion to the Premier League.
The midfielder will get the chance to return to the Championship outfit on Saturday as the Chairboys look to cause an upset in first round of the Capital One Cup.
Despite having left the Hornets over five years ago, Spring admits that he will savour every moment of their meeting.
Good times
"Watford in the cup could be a good start for us and I'm really looking forward to it," Spring told
Sky Sports.
"I've not been back to Vicarage Road since I left the club, so it is definitely one I will relish because my time there was probably the brightest spell of my career.
"It will be good to go back there, but obviously a lot has changed since I was there because there are hardly any players left that I played alongside and all of the staff and people behind-the-scenes have probably gone as well.
"However, as an individual it will be nice to go back and see the fans and remember the good times that I had at the club."
Spring joined Wycombe over the summer having left Leyton Orient and insists that the chance to play for manager Gary Waddock was a huge incentive when deciding where his future rested.
He added: "I've known Gary for quite some time because funnily enough I made my senior debut alongside him as a 17-year-old at Luton.
"That made my decision to come here even easier because the way that he handles the players and likes the game to be played fits in with what I like as well.
"I respected him massively as a player because he was coming to the end of his playing career whilst I was just starting out, but I respect him even more so as a manager now considering what he has achieved on the other side of the white line."
