Spireites trio in PFA XI

Chesterfield have three players in the PFA League Two team of the year.

Lee, Davies and Whitaker named in team

Chesterfield have three players in the PFA League Two team of the year with Tommy Lee, Danny Whitaker and Craig Davies all voted in. The Spireites, who currently lead the division have all but secured promotion to League One. Fellow promotion hopefuls Bury provide two players with Joe Skarz and Ryan Lowe included. Striker Lowe created history for the Shakers when he broke a 53 year old club record by scoring in nine consecutive league games beating John Willie Parker's run of scoring in seven straight games set in 1958.
League Two team of the year
Tommy Lee Lee has excelled as Chesterfield's last line of defence with the Spireites on course to be playing League One football next season. The former Manchester United trainee has made the No.1 shirt his own since arriving from Macclesfield in 2008, being named the club's Young Player of the Year for that term and Player of the Year the following season. Damian Batt The versatile Batt earns his place in the side following a string of fine displays on the right for Oxford this term. Recognised by his peers for his efforts in defence, but also capable of operating in a more advanced role, the fleet-footed 26-year-old has proved his ability in the Football League after spells with St Albans, Stevenage, Woking and Grays. Ian Sharps Uncompromising centre-half Sharps secures a spot in the PFA League Two XI for the second successive season after being selected last term while with Rotherham. The Shrews secured his services over the summer and he has slotted seamlessly into their back four, providing outstanding leadership and experience to bolster their promotion push. Guy Branston Branston may be approaching the veteran stage of his career but the robust central defender has enjoyed a memorable campaign with Torquay. The 32-year-old initially joined the Gulls on loan for the second half of last season before making a free transfer in the summer. The well-travelled defender has helped the Plainmoor club challenge for promotion this term. Joe Skarz Skarz was tipped for big things when he was named Football League apprentice of the year for 2007 and the former Huddersfield man has proved an astute signing for the Shakers as they look to clamber out of League Two. An ever-present in the league this season, the 21-year-old's displays at left-back have helped the Gigg Lane club maintain one of the best defences in the division. Danny Whitaker Chesterfield's prolific goalscoring form this season has seen them rocket to the brink of promotion to League One, with Whitaker contributing double figures from midfield, thanks in part to his penalty prowess. The former Macclesfield, Port Vale and Oldham player joined the Spireites in the summer and immediately announced himself with a hat-trick against Hereford in August. Gareth Ainsworth Wycombe club captain Ainsworth had led by example in the heart of midfield for the Chairboys this season, driving the side on in their quest to climb back into League One. The former Wimbledon and QPR man brings vital experience and nous to the starting XI and his displays with his 38th birthday on the horizon are a tribute to his professionalism. Jimmy Ryan Ryan could well be on the move in the summer with his contract at Accrington due to expire, but he has continued to give his all at the Crown Ground with Stanley battling to secure a place in League One. A series of stand-out midfield performances from the 22-year-old have earned him the respect of his peers and have had the scouts heading to Accrington to check on his abilities. Nicky Law Law is the second member of the 2009/10 PFA Team of the Year to have made the cut again this term, a testament to his consistency at this level despite his age. There is clearly more to come from the talented 23-year-old, who was targeted by Blackpool in the January 2010 transfer window. A career higher up the league ladder is expected for one of the Millers' key men. Ryan Lowe Lowe's 25 goals this term have fired Bury to the brink of promotion after 11 seasons in the basement of the Football League. The former Chester, Crewe and Shrewsbury man has been a regular scorer in the lower divisions but has enjoyed a prolific campaign to spearhead the Shakers' surge. Lowe enjoyed an impressive spell in February and March, scoring in nine successive games. Craig Davies Davies has proved to be the focal point in Chesterfield's impressive attacking armoury, surpassing the 20-goal mark to fire the Spireites to the brink of promotion to League One. The forward saw red in his first game of the season but bounced back from that early setback to find the net on a consistent basis and currently boasts 22 goals from 37 starts this term.
