Sheffield United's on-loan midfielder Matthew Spring is desperate to land a permanent deal at Bramall Lane, with his future at Luton Town looking bleak.
The 28-year-old told
skysports.com that the offer from Bramall Lane in the summer was too good to turn down.
"That's the plan (to make the move permanent). I got the opportunity to come to Sheffield from Luton and I couldn't turn the chance down," said Sping.
"Hopefully at the end of it there will be something here for me.
"I would say my future lies away from Luton, but you never say never. I think that my time there is over and hopefully something will happen at either Sheffield United or somewhere else."
The Blades sold Michael Tonge to Stoke City on deadline day and with speculation surrounding a possible return to Bramall Lane for Michael Brown, Spring believes competition for a midfield berth is good.
Competition
"It is good to have competition for places and it keeps people on their toes. You know that if you don't do well enough then your place is up for grabs, so as long as it's healthy competition and it doesn't jeopardise what is going on in the team then it's good."
The former Leeds and Watford midfielder hopes to break into the first-team soon, having made a couple of Carling Cup appearances so far for the Blades.
"That is my aim really, I need to be playing week in week out and I just need to wait for my opportunity and then it's down to me to do well and keep my place in the team."
Spring believes that a club the size of United should be playing in the Premier League and that is the main aim for the Blades this season, but he is keen to add a cup run alongside their promotion push.
Cup runs
"Play-offs are the bottom line really in terms of where we want to be. For a club this size and the playing squad as good as it is here promotion has got to be the ambition. Champions would be nice obviously, but promotion is key.
"You have to go into every game wanting to win it and I don't see why we should just concentrate on the league. The squad is good enough and big enough to take in the extra games and we'd love a few good cup runs."
