Wycombe Wanderers defender Gus Uhlenbeek has left the League Two club after turning down the offer of a new deal.

The 34-year-old joined The Chairboys on a one-year deal last summer after finishing the previous season with Chesterfield.

The former Ipswich Town, Fulham, Sheffield United and Bradford City player was offered a new one-year contract at The Causeway Stadium, but the Surinam-born player has opted to find pastures new for the following campaign.

Despite failing to keep the veteran right back, Wycombe boss John Gorman was full of praise for Uhlenbeek's brief service to the Buckinghamshire-based outfit.

"There's a few teams talking to him now and hopefully he will get something sorted out because he deserves it," Gorman told the club's official website.

"He's been a pleasure to work with and he was a credit to the team."
