Rochdale have signed defender Tom Kennedy who returns for his third spell with the club.

The 29-year-old full-back, released by Barnsley last month, has put pen to paper on a short-term deal until January. Kennedy made over 150 appearances for Rochdale during a three-year spell after joining the club in 2007 and helped them win promotion to Sky Bet League One in 2010. He joined Leicester on a free transfer later in the summer of 2010 and returned to Spotland the following November for a three-month loan spell. Kennedy followed former Barnsley boss Keith Hill to Oakwell in 2012 and made 75 appearances for the Reds. He is reunited with current Dale manager Hill for a third time and is the club's the second new signing in two days following the arrival of former Barnsley team-mate Stephen Dawson.
