Rochdale have taken up the one-year extension on George Donnelly's contract to keep the striker at Spotland next season.

The 25-year-old old, who joined the club from Macclesfield in 2012, has reached a mutual agreement to extend his stay. "George has been an integral part of the success that we've had this season," assistant manager Chris Beech told the club's official website. "His power, his pace and his presence puts the fear into any opposition that we play against. "He has met that (appearances) requirement of his option and he deserves an extra year for his hard work. "We wanted to retain George because of those attributes that he offers. "He offers something that is hard to contain, whether it's late on in games, whether he's starting the game or playing with a partner. "He has also ran the line on his own at times and he has done that brilliantly, so we're very pleased that he'll be part of our League One squad next season." Donnelly has scored 13 goals in 75 appearances during his two seasons at the club.
