Assistant boss Chris Beech revealed the part he played in Peter Vincenti's thunderous opener in Rochdale's 3-0 win over Newport.
Vincenti fired Dale ahead just five minutes in when he unleashed a rising drive from 30 yards which flew past Lenny Pidgeley before Graham Cummins doubled the lead after Jamie Allen's shot hit the crossbar.
Substitute Bastien Hery made it three, after Josh Lillis had saved a spot-kick, to lift Keith Hill's squad up to fifth in the table but the post-match talk centered around Vincenti's stunner.
Beech said: "I gave Peter Vincenti some stick for shooting too early in the week and I said to him before the game that if he scored he could turn around and give me some stick back.
"Then he goes and scores a goal like that after five minutes and I was just thankful he didn't come over to the bench.
"The players are getting stronger and understanding what Keith's way is, what we want to do and how we want to do it.
"We played possession-based football throughout the 90 minutes and topped that up with the goals, and we're probably disappointed not to have scored more than three."
