Symes: Spotted a gap at Dale

Rochdale newcomer Michael Symes set the wheels in motion for his loan move away from Bournemouth.

The 28-year-old striker started nine of the Cherries' past 13 fixtures and has three goals to his name this term after overcoming an early season groin problem.

But he believed the arrival of Crawley forward Matt Tubbs at Dean Court would limit his opportunities and sought a temporary solution that Dale were only too happy to provide.

"I'm going to Rochdale to play games and score goals, but I'm not going to do that from the bench," Symes told Bournemouth's official website.

"With Matt Tubbs coming in I realised there wasn't much chance of me starting games between now and the end of the season. I phoned my agent, he phoned the manager and we took things from there.

"All I wanted was a run in the team and playing as a striker. Hopefully I will get that there and can show people what I can do."
