Eyre upbeat despite defeat

Steve Eyre was cheered as Rochdale ran Charlton so close but bemoaned the concession of the goals as his side slipped to a 3-2 defeat.

Goals from Ashley Grimes and David Ball pulled Dale level at 2-2 and they looked on course for a point until Danny Hollands struck in the 80th minute. "We can take some comfort from the fact we ran the league leaders close," said Eyre. "We genuinely felt we could have won it, believe we should have drawn it and feel aggrieved at ourselves for losing it and a bit unlucky to lose it. "At the same time, let's not get away from the fact that scoring two goals at home should be enough - we conceded three and that is why we've lost. "I feel the winning goal could have been avoided and the fact we got ourselves back into the game having been two down makes it all the more disappointing."
