Versatile starlet bids to follow in Boyata's footsteps

Derby County's on-loan youngster Javan Vidal has not ruled out joining the Rams on a permanent basis, but has ambitions of breaking into the Manchester City first team next season. The versatile defender-cum-midfielder has previously impressed whilst on loan at Aberdeen and Grimsby Town, yet still cannot break into the City starting XI and has been farmed out to the Championship to gain more experience. And Vidal, who has joined Nigel Clough's outfit until the end of the season, has told skysports.com that he is anxious to impress City boss Roberto Mancini. "Obviously, I want to play at the highest level that I can and Manchester City are playing at the highest level of the English game," said the 20-year-old, who is keen to follow in the footsteps of Dedryck Boyata's rise through the ranks into the City first team. "However, Derby is still a massive club, with Premier League foundations, but at the moment I'm just taking it as a chance to show what I can do to Manchester City and whatever happens after that will happen. "It has been difficult to break into the side at Manchester City, but there is a saying in football that if you are good enough then you will make it into the side one day. "I am just working hard and trying to improve my game so that I can put myself into the manager's thoughts. "It is all about being patient and plugging away, so that if a chance comes when players in front of you get injured or suspended then you are ready to grasp that opportunity with both hands. "Hopefully, I can impress Roberto Mancini whilst I'm on loan at Derby and give him something to think about in terms of taking a chance on me next season."
