Robertson hails Peterborough

Dave Robertson insists Peterborough are loving turning the ABAX Stadium into a fortress after a 1-0 victory over Chesterfield.

Michael Bostwick's deflected effort in the first half settled the contest for Posh who played the last half-an-hour with 10 men after defender Ricardo Santos was sent off. A series of fine contributions from goalkeeper Ben Alnwick and a dogged defensive effort were enough to see the hosts across the finish line as they secured a third successive victory on home soil under Robertson's tenure. "I think it's the best win we've had since I took over," said Robertson. "Chesterfield are the best footballing team I've seen us play so to keep a clean sheet is nothing short of phenomenal. "Our goalkeeper was unbelievable. Some of his saves were nothing short of world class. "I take full responsibility for the red card because I ask the player to be fully committed. "Three weeks ago I said can we make the ABAX a fortress and that is definitely happening. The players are a committed bunch and we are loving it here. "If I'm being honest I would like a little bit more flair, but all the fans expect of their team is that they give 100 per cent and that is getting us results." Peterborough grabbed the lead after 21 minutes as Conor Washington broke into the area down the left. The ball was only cleared to Bostwick around 15 yards out and his scuffed shot deflected into the net. The home side went down to 10 men just after the hour mark when Santos received a second yellow card for tripping Sam Clucas. The pick of Alnwick's many stops came from Gary Roberts as Posh kept the visitors at bay. It was an outcome which led to Chesterfield losing vital ground in the race for a coveted top-six finish. Spireites assistant manager Leam Richardson said: "We played well and the possession stats will be in our favour. "We controlled the game so to lose is a bitter pill to swallow. I thought we started tremendously well. "To start like that away from home, it's one of the best performances of the season. "The lads have given everything they've got and didn't have an extra breath in them. "We've got some tough but appetising games and we need to look after ourselves and not worry about other teams. "It's that time of the season when you need a winning mentality. We expect the lads to respond well."
