Baldwin injury blow for Pools

Hartlepool's teenage defender Jack Baldwin will miss the pre-season friendly with Sunderland on Friday through injury.

Baldwin, 19, suffered an ankle ailment during Pools' friendly draw with Whitby on Wednesday and left the pitch on a stretcher. "It's quite a nasty gash on his ankle and it's in a tricky spot," manager Neale Cooper told the club's official website. "He's got no chance of being involved on Friday which is a blow for us and for Jack, but hopefully we can get him fixed up and he won't be out too long." The pre-season warm-up produced further injury concern for Cooper when Simon Walton also had to be substituted and subsequently taken to hospital for stitches after a clash of heads. However, Walton is expected to be fit for the Black Cats' visit to Victoria Park.
