Peter Kennedy has announced his international retirement with Northern Ireland.Peter Kennedy has announced his international retirement with Northern Ireland.
The Peterborough defender took the decision to quit the international stage after being left out of the recent squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
"I spoke to Lawrie (Sanchez) last week about the situation," said Kennedy. "I am disappointed, I am still only 30-years-old.
"I was left out of the last squad against Switzerland and took that as a big sign that I was not in the manager's plans.
"I was put on standby for the squad for the two qualifying matches and I found out on Wednesday afternoon that I had been called into the squad.
"I spoke to Lawrie, but he let me know that I was third choice and was only in the squad because of suspension and injury.
"Lawrie made it sound like that no matter how I played against Poland, I wouldn't be playing against Wales, so it made me feel used.
"At the end of the day, I respect Lawrie's decision because he is the manager, life goes on, I enjoyed my time with Northern Ireland and I wish them all the best in the future."
