Clarke calls for Pirates fight

Darrell Clarke has called on Bristol Rovers' players to show him they are up for the relegation fight.

The Pirates' 2-1 home defeat to Torquay on Saturday leaves them just one point clear of the League Two relegation zone ahead of this weekend's clash with Portsmouth at Fratton Park. And Clarke says he will select players who can show mental strength. "We have to look ahead to a game against Portsmouth where we will be in front of 18,000 people and I need to pick a team with characters in it that will be able to cope with that," he told the Bristol Evening Post. "I'll be picking players who show me that they are capable of overcoming the fear and expectation because there is a hell of a lot riding on these last three weeks. "They've looked really bright in training this week, but when it comes to crossing the white line in front of 6,000 people they haven't been able to perform."
