Clarke: We deserved boos

Darrell Clarke admits Bristol Rovers deserved the negative reaction from their supporters after a 2-1 home defeat to Torquay.

The game was deep into stoppage time when Danny Woodards shot home at the second attempt to net a consolation after Torquay goalkeeper Martin Rice had saved his first effort. Rovers only came to life in the closing minutes when substitute David Clarkson headed against the crossbar. The final seconds saw Woodards shoot over, but Torquay were well worth their win. The Pirates are now in the thick of the battle to avoid relegation and sit just one point above the drop zone after a desperately poor display. "We deserved all the stick we got from supporters at the end," Clarke said. "One or two of the players did not look up for the fight and I will have to look at that before selecting a team for our next game at Portsmouth. "The right mentality is everything in our current situation. To say I am bitterly disappointed with how we played is an understatement. "We only had a go in the last 10 minutes and that is not acceptable. I picked an attacking line-up, but we never got off the blocks in the second half and conceded from a set-piece. "It wasn't good enough and we have a fight on."
