Derby testimonial for Carey

Bristol City will host a testimonial against Bristol Rovers at Ashton Gate to mark Louis Carey's 17-year professional career with the club.

Club skipper Carey, City's second highest appearance holder with 625, is poised to sign a new one-year contract and could yet surpass John Atyeo's record of 645. The friendly derby clash against Rovers - the first meeting between the two clubs for five years - will take place on Saturday, August 4, with a 3pm kick-off. Carey, 35, told the club's official website: "I'm truly grateful to the club, Bristol Rovers and everyone involved in arranging this game, especially my testimonial committee. "It's the first time the two sides have met for some time and it should be a really fun day. "It's my chance to thank the supporters for their backing in my time at the club over so many years. I've enjoyed every minute of my time at Ashton Gate and I'm so grateful to have the chance to play for another season." Testimonial committee chairman David Fear added: "We're hoping to make this a real family occasion. This is everyone's chance to show their gratitude for Louis' 17 years as a professional and the two years as a YTS before that."
