Bristol Rovers have signed Jim Paterson on loan from Shamrock Rovers until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old utility player has been training with Rovers for the last 10 days and links up with former manager Mark McGhee at the Memorial Stadium. In a statement, McGhee said: "Jim is a player who did ever so well for me at Motherwell before signing for Plymouth. He was arguably our best player up until he left, and we went on to finish third that season. "He has a lot of experience and is desperate for the opportunity to play. He has kept himself fit playing in Ireland and I think he is the right type of player for this club. "He is similar in some respects to both Gary Sawyer and Lee Brown, but different enough that I can see all three players in the same team. Bringing him here gives us cover, experience and options." Paterson has played for Dundee United, Motherwell, Plymouth and Aberdeen over the course of his career.
