Baker expects January sales

Cheltenham chairman Paul Baker expects to receive approaches for a number of players during the January transfer window.

However, the Whaddon Road supremo is not in any mood to start selling the key squad members who have helped the Robins reach second place in League Two. Marlon Pack and Russ Penn have excelled in the middle of midfield, while Kaid Mohamed has been a constant threat wide on the left for the Gloucestershire side, and all three could be the subject of interest from other Football League clubs in the new year. But Baker stressed he will not be forced into cashing in. "You're not going to be in the top three in League Two if you're got rubbish players," he said. "League Two is tough. A lot of clubs get far bigger playing budgets and we're probably midway down the table in terms of playing budget. "But the squad we have is of top quality and we see them as being crucial in our development. Players have short careers and they need to make the most of the opportunities when they arise. I think we have three or four players who should be interesting other clubs. "But I have said to the manager that there is no pressure to sell. We made a profit last year and we are on course to do so again this year. If we get an offer attractive enough we might talk about it, but there is no need to sell."
