Poole: Wants to be part of Stockport's bid to get back into the Football League next season

Stockport County winger David Poole is hoping to help the club bounce back from relegation to the Blue Square Bet Premier next season.

The 26-year-old's contract is set to expire this summer after a frustrating season that ultimately ended in the Hatters falling out of the Football League for the first time in their history.

However, Poole has revealed that he hopes to stay on next season and help the club regain their Football League status at the first attempt.

"I'm out of contract in the summer and the club hasn't spoke to any of the players about extending their deals yet," Poole told skysports.com.

Great achievement

"I think that there are only three players contracted for next season, so a lot can happen in the summer.

"I'd like to be involved in helping to get the club back in the Football League because it would be a great achievement to do that, but we will have to wait and see what happens in the summer."

Many clubs have struggled to recover after falling into the abyss of the Conference, but Poole is confident that Stockport will not fall into that category if they commit to the cause.

He added: "It depends on what sort of budget the club makes available in the summer because if they make huge cuts and bring players in that aren't going to get the club back into the Football League then it will take a few seasons to bounce back.

"However, if they give it a good go and build a side good enough to compete in the Blue Square Premier, which is no walk in the park, then I can't see why we can't go back up straight away."
