Stockport County manager Jim Gannon insists he is keen on keeping front man Adam Proudlock at Edgeley Park.
The former Ipswich Town striker was released from Portman Road at the end of last season.
But he has seldom featured as a starter for the League Two outfit this season because of injuries.
Nevertheless, Gannon hopes to extend the 25-year-old's three-month deal, as County look for their third straight win away against Rochdale on Saturday.
"It's been difficult for Adam because each time he's got close to breaking through, he's had a setback," Gannon explained.
"But we're patient and he's patient which is why we gave him the opportunity for three months rather than a month.
"We're already talking about extending that to give him the opportunity and I'm sure he'll repay the faith we've shown in him."
Defender Michael Raynes is meanwhile set to return to action following tests to determine the cause of his heart palpitations, and Gannon admits it has been a difficult wait.
"It's been frustrating because we're waiting for the specialist to come back from America," Gannon added.
"Unfortunately there's been no way around it but he's been using the time wisely and he's been building himself up."
