Stockport have made a firm offer for Peterborough right back Dean Holden.
The 27-year-old, who joined Posh from Oldham last year, had been linked with League Two rivals Chester earlier in the summer.
The Hatters are now in pole position to capture his signature though, as manager Jim Gannon looks to bolster his defence.
Peterborough boss Barry Fry regards Holden as one of his top players but may have no option but to sell due to the club's poor financial state.
Stockport must now wait to see if their bid is successful.
