Torquay boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Football League with a crushing 4-0 win over fellow strugglers Stockport.
United blitzed their way to a 3-0 lead within the first half hour of the game, Lee Thorpe grabbing a brace (4 and 18) and Jo-Osei Kuffour (23) also netting.
They needed to win by five to climb above Oxford and out of the bottom two, but they could only add one more in the second half, courtesy of Danny Hollands in the 48th minute.
Barnet eased their relegation worries slightly by battling to a 1-1 draw at Rochdale.
Chris Dagnall (23) fired Rochdale in front, but Ian Hendon scored a penalty after 28 minutes to ensure that The Bees went away with a share of the points.
