Stockport have failed in loan bids for two Premiership goalkeepers with Hatters keeper Neil Cutler expected to sign for Rotherham on Thursday.

Manager Chris Turner has been rebuffed in his attempts to sign Everton's Iain Turner and Middlesbrough's Ross Turnbull as he seeks cover for first-choice James Spencer.

The Toffees were unwilling to loan out Turner while Turnbull has opted for a six-month loan move to Championship side Crewe instead.

Turner confirmed: "We've been knocked back for two Premiership keepers but unless James Spencer gets injured we won't be rushing to bring anybody else in yet."

Meanwhile Stockport have released trialist Michael Welch who is now being chased by three Conference sides.
