DAVID SMITH has rejoined Division One bottom-dwellers Stockport County after a month's loan spell at Macclesfield Town.

Smith returns to Edgeley Park and faces a certain future in Division Two next season, as County lie 19 points adrift at the bottom of the table.

The Silkmen sit in the bottom half of the Division Three table and are 11 points adrift of the play-off position.

Meanwhile, The Hatters` troubles have been compounded by the news that keeper Lee Jones has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after breaking his collar bone.

Carlton Palmer`s side are rooted to the foot of Division One and the news that their number one will miss the remainder of the season is yet another blow.

Jones suffered the injury in the weekend defeat by Sheffield United, their fifth on the bounce, and is likely to be replaced by Sam Turner for the run in to the end of the season.
