Watford midfielder Adlene Guedioura could have further cause for celebration on Friday after he was nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for April.

The Algerian played a key role in the Hornets’ charge towards promotion to the Premier League, which they secured last weekend, with his vision and technique on full display during the month.

He is joined on the list by Wolves striker Benik Afobe - English football’s leading scorer this season – who netted five goals in April, scoring in all but one of his team’s matches.

Derby midfielder Tom Ince, who is on loan from Hull, has been nominated for the second successive month after scoring five goals in six matches.

Ipswich’s Cole Skuse is the fourth candidate following his performances in Town’s midfield as well as scoring a superb goal against Cardiff.

In Sky Bet League One, there is a nomination for Preston striker Jermaine Beckford after the 31-year-old netted five goals during April in North End’s push for promotion.

MK Dons also remain in the hunt to join Bristol City in the Championship next season and their striker Will Grigg is on the shortlist after a fine run of form which saw him score six goals in seven games during the month.

Swindon midfielder Ben Gladwin is another player to net six times in April, including a first career hat-trick in the 4-2 win at Rochdale, to put himself in contention for the award.

Walsall centre-back James O’Connor has also earned a nomination after playing a starring role in the Saddlers’ improved form which saw them keep five clean sheets during seven unbeaten games.

Two central defenders are in the running for the Sky Bet League Two award in Southend’s Adam Barrett and Connor Goldson of Shrewsbury.

Barrett has been at the heart of a Southend defence which did not concede a goal during seven games in April.

Goldson also enjoyed a perfect month with the Shrews winning every one of his four matches without conceding a goal, while he also scored two powerful headers in the 2-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge.

Oxford striker Kemar Roofe, who is on loan from West Brom, has also been nominated after scoring five goals in six games, including two each in the away wins at Wycombe and Tranmere.

The list is completed by Portsmouth midfielder Jed Wallace, who showcased his talents with long-range strikes against Carlisle, Plymouth and Mansfield.
