Mellon stunned by dramatic win

Micky Mellon hailed Shrewsbury's 2-1 victory over Carlisle as 'fantastic' after his side scored twice in added time to grab the win.

Charlie Wyke had given Carlisle a 66th minute lead and Shrews looked set for defeat until Mickey Demetrious and top scorer James Collins came up with their dramatic late show. Mellon admitted:"It was tough on Carlisle, but games last 94 or 95 minutes and it's a fantastic result for us. "To call it dramatic would be an understatement. We were poor in the first half and Carlisle outfought and out-battled us all over the pitch. "They were very physical and at half time I said they wanted it more which was disappointing because I've probably never had to say that to them. "We made a change of shape and were better in the second half. It was tough on Carlisle and I was stunned by the second goal because with two minutes to go you are thinking about what to say after the game. "Carlisle invited us on a bit towards the end, but what a finish by James Collins, it was total class." Mellon admitted that he made his players well aware they owed their travelling fans a performance after their first half disappointment. "To be fair they came out in the second half and fought and in the end it's a massive three points for us." Shrews had goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler to thank for keeping them level up to half time. The keeper pulled off a string of great saves, but had no chance with Wyke's 66th-minute volley after Danny Grainger had hoisted a long ball forward into the box. Demetriou headed Shrews level and Carlisle appeared shell shocked as moments later Collins lashed in his 15th goal of the season. Carlisle manager Keith Curle admitted:"We didn't quite do the job well enough. We've got to get locked on in the 18-yard box and see the game out. We gave a very good team a run for their money and there are lots of positives." However the Carlisle boss added:"It's the hardest press conference I've had to do since I've been here. "Before the game I spoke about Shrewsbury's sexy football. Now I feel like I've just seen an ex-partner out with another bloke. We don't need a pat on the back because we didn't win a game we should have won. "However the performance shows we are walking in the right direction although the result shows we still have some more to do. "We don't want to get in the habit of playing well but not getting results. Our reputation has got to be built on results."
