John Sheridan praised Plymouth for keeping another clean sheet following a 1-0 home win over Shrewsbury.

Argyle striker Reuben Reid scored the only goal of the game in the 33rd minute to hand the hosts all three points. Sheridan said: "I thought the lads did the ugly things really well, we defended crosses and cut things out. "They put us under pressure but we fought our socks off to get the three points, which again was the most important thing." Top scorer Reuben Reid took his season's tally to six goals, heading home Bobby Reid's 33rd-minute first time cross from the left. Argyle keeper Luke McCormick made crucial saves to deny Shrewsbury striker James Collins, twice, as well as palming Jean Louis Akpa Akpro's header onto the bar and away to safety as Town went in search of a leveller. Sheridan said: "Everyone played their part. Luke McCormick was outstanding but all the back four played well and so did Anthony O'Connor in front of them. "It was a great goal by Reuben and a good delivery between the posts, Bobby was excellent today. "It's a funny old league. I think every manager will be saying the same as me in that you don't want to be up and down - you just want to get that seven out of ten every week. If you do that you will get out of this division. It's all about consistency. "I thought we were the better team for the last half hour of the first half but we didn't carry that through to the second half, which was a shame and something we have got to learn at this level. "But we grafted, the work ethic was there and we ground out the result - and sometimes they are the best results. "It was important we got three points against a good team because Shrewsbury will be up there at the end of the season I have no doubt." Town boss Micky Mellon said: "If anyone in that stadium says that we didn't deserve something from that game then I would have to disagree. "We did everything but put the ball in the net. I couldn't ask any more of them. We got undone with a bit of detail from a second phase from a corner kick when it has come back in and we lost our marker. But other than that it was just incessant pressure. "We kept our composure and kept trying to play football. I lost count of how many crosses we put in their box. Apart from getting on the end of some of the crosses and being a bit more clinical with our finishing at times, I couldn't ask for any more. "Our fans were fantastic and I think they acknowledged that we have got to be that bit more clinical and we have got to take care of the detail so we don't give away a sloppy goal."
