Mellon awaits Goldson decision

Micky Mellon is unsure about Connor Goldson's future at Shrewsbury, as pre-season gets under way ahead of their League Two return.

The 21-year-old defender's contract expired and he is assessing his options before giving Shrews an answer on their offer of a new deal. Mellon told the club's official website: "It's still ongoing. We have to wait and see what happens with that before we can maybe move on other things but we've got plans either way if Connor decides that his future's going to lie here. "We've got people here training with us at the moment that if Connor decides his future's elsewhere that we can bring them on board." Goldson appeared 43 times for Town last season, his best return since emerging from the club's academy in 2010. Mellon added: "We're in constant dialogue with him. His agent tells us that he's out talking to people today so we should hopefully know a little bit more today, but we thought that we were going to know a little bit more last Friday. "I want to be as transparent as possible because I don't want the fans being in any doubt that we are trying to get it sorted out as quickly as we can." With the League Two season kicking off in a month's time, Mellon is pleased with how his squad is taking shape. He said: "I'm getting towards being happy with the players I've got in the building, if not maybe the numbers yet, but we'll work on that. We've got a plan for that and we've got a few things lined up that we want to get done. "We're in a good place and we've got 20 players training every day which is good and we've got a lot of talented lads out there."
