Graham Turner appears to have lost out on another transfer target as he looks to bolster his depleted Shrewsbury squad.
The Town boss has revealed he was casting his eye over an unnamed player who was in action for his club's reserve side on Monday night, however an impressive performance from the mystery man has now seemingly put him out of Shrewsbury's reach.
"I went to an interesting game down south," Turner told Town's official website.
"The player I went to watch was outstanding so I no longer think we'll get him.
"It was on the cards that we would get him but then his performance would suggest he'll either be sold for substantial money or he'll be in somebody's first team.
"I thought we were making good progress with it. When you go to games like that you want the player to do okay but not to be too good. But the lad was impressive so I think we'll close the door on that one now."
The setback comes after Turner revealed last Thursday that a deal to bring in an unidentified striker on a six-month loan deal had fallen through after a change of heart by the player.
