Surgery set to sideline Winfield

Wycombe defender Dave Winfield is set for surgery that will keep him out of League One action for around a month.

The 23-year-old centre-back will have an operation to cure a groin complaint within the next 10 days which will also allow him to recover from the knee problem he sustained at the back end of last season. Wanderers' head of medical and sports science Stuart Ayles told the club's official website: "Dave injured his knee against Torquay in April but he's battled through the pain since then. "We want to make sure he gets the best rehabilitation to reduce the chance of missing more games throughout the season." Winfield will miss league matches against Brentford, Yeovil, Tranmere, Sheffield United and Preston and is expected to return to action in October.
