Shrewsbury boss Gary Peters is ready for a major clearout at the club as only three players have been offered new contracts.

Only Scott Howie, Stuart Whitehead and youngster Gavin Cadwallader have been offered new deals to stay at Gay Meadow.

The likes of Martin O'Connor, Trevor Challis, Jake Sedgemore, Darren Tinson, Kevin Street, Sam Aiston, Liam Murray and Ross Stephens are all out of contract and are set to leave the club.

Star striker Luke Rodgers was offered new terms to stay with The Shrews but he has turned down the offer.

"In a lot of cases the lads have done nearly enough to deserve a contract through their effort and determination that they have put in, but we have had to let players go because we need a change," said Peters.

"We need to turn around everything here so we've had to be quite drastic.

"There are people who have gone when their performances haven't warranted them going, but other factors have."
