Shrewsbury Town have completed the signing of young striker John Grant on a free transfer.

Grant had the choice of linking up with The Shrews or accepting a deal to stay in the Conference with Northwich Victoria.

The 22-year-old became available for nothing following Telford United's liquidation at the end of last season.

Northwich had been hoping to secure the forward, who spent a spell on loan with The Vics in the spring of 2002.

But he has plumped for a return to The Football League with Shrewsbury, after the club clinched promotion from the Conference last term.

Shrews boss Jimmy Quinn was in charge of The Vics while Grant enjoyed his loan stint and clearly rates the forward.

Grant's previous experience at League level was with Crewe Alexandra for whom he featured fleetingly after coming through the Gresty Road ranks.
