Midfielder returns to Moss Rose

Richard Butcher has joined Macclesfield Town on a two-year deal following his release by Lincoln City. The experienced midfielder enjoyed a brief spell on loan with the Silkmen last season but has now returned to Moss Rose on a permanent basis. The 29-year-old is a seasoned performer who knows his way around League Two and Macclesfield are hoping to benefit from his considerable experience. Butcher started his career at Northampton Town in 1999 before taking in spells as Rushden & Diamonds and Kettering Town. The first of three stints at Lincoln followed in 2002, while he has also turned out for Oldham Athletic, Peterborough United and Notts County. While far from prolific, Butcher is noted for his ability to get forward from midfield and weigh in with vital goals at important times.
