Robinson slams penalty call

Image: Karl Robinson: Really, really poor

Karl Robinson turned up at the post-match press conference with a laptop to prove MK Dons were denied a penalty against Walsall.

The recording appeared to show Saddlers defender Andy Taylor scything down Will Grigg inside the area, but referee Seb Stockbridge gave a goal kick to the hosts. Robinson blamed the assistant referee on that side of the pitch, and said: "I thought that was really, really poor. "You have all seen it. How many times have we seen it in the past month. The assistant referee was poor for me and he needs to take responsibility." At that point, in the 20th minute, Walsall were in front thanks to top-scorer Tom Bradshaw heading his 16th goal of the season. But the Dons bounced back to save a point when, in the 33rd minute, Grigg turned in a perfect cross from Dean Bowditch to equalise. Grigg, a former Walsall striker, celebrated in front of the home fans, but Saddlers' manager Dean Smith said: "I have no problem with that. He couldn't miss from three yards." Smith was more concerned that his own defence had failed to cut out the cross from Bowditch - a rare mistake in a match where the result could have gone either way. Robinson was pleased with much of his team's performance as they ended a run of three successive defeats. He said: "For 10 minutes in the first and second half we looked shaky and nervous, but for the rest of the game we looked very good and we could have nicked it. "The subs made a difference, so there are many positives to be taken from this game. "We have lacked confidence recently, but this was ticking the box towards the right direction. I thought we shaded the match on chances and dominated more parts of the game." Smith, whose team have won only one of their last nine home games, said: "In the second half I thought we were a bit unfortunate not to win the game. "It was a great start for us, taking the lead, and I thought we were the better team. The equaliser was a good goal for them but a sloppy one to concede for us." Smith was pleased to see his club captain, midfielder Sam Mantom, come through his first 90 minutes this season after a troublesome knee injury. He added: "This was always going to be a tough game and it has taken a lot out of both teams"
