Grayson backs strikers to shine

Simon Grayson has backed mis-firing strikers Jermaine Beckford and Kevin Davies, after Preston's 1-1 draw with MK Dons.

Carl Baker shot the third-placed visitors in front before the interval after Davies had missed a golden opportunity for the hosts. But North End levelled when Gibraltar international right-back Scott Wiseman arrowed in only his second goal for the club. Davies and Beckford have failed to score a league goal between them this term, but Grayson remains positive that the former Premier League marksmen will come good. He said: "A point was the least that we deserved. "We've not finished the chances when they've come along for us. The least we deserved was the draw. "The performance of the two strikers was really good. I thought Kevin Davies was a real handful, Jermaine Beckford was looking to play off him and running down the side causing him problems. But they are judged on their goals as well I suppose. "You can sense they're not full of confidence at this moment in time. It's not easy to put that ball in the back of the net but they've both done it over the years and I've no problem that it will come for them. "I thought Kev was a constant threat for us going forward. I would have thought many, many strikers would not even have bothered keeping the ball in the 18-yard box, but Kev did what he did and landed it at an unusual suspect in Scott Wiseman." MK Dons were forced to hang on for their point as the game wore on. But having now gone a club record 10 League One games unbeaten, boss Karl Robinson felt that was just reward for their fine work ethic. He said: "It was a very hard point. "That was the first goal we've conceded since Bristol City almost three months ago and that's a club record of games undefeated in League One. It's not bad is it? "I'm disappointed with the goal and we've rode our luck with Davies' header. He said to me 'he's let us off the hook there' and he did. "I thought we edged the first half and they edged the second half. We stopped playing in the second half. But I thought the hunger of our players was magnificent. "Let's focus on the positives. It's the biggest unbeaten run in the clubs history at this level. It's ok in League Two, but in League One it's a remarkable achievement by the players. People don't realise how hard this is. We've played a lot of big teams in this 10-game run."
