Boss keen on Carruthers

MK Dons boss Karl Robinson is interested in bringing Aston Villa midfielder Samir Carruthers back to the club.

Carruthers was on loan at the League One club last season but saw his stay in Milton Keynes prematurely ended by a knee injury. Now the 21-year-old is fit again, Robinson would like to explore the possibility of signing Carruthers on a permanent deal. "Samir is someone I think is a top, top player," Robinson told the media following his side's pre-season friendly defeat to Leicester on Tuesday night. "I'm not going to rule it out, but I'm not going to tell you I've done a deal either. He's someone I'd love to bring to the club on a permanent deal. "And when you see the team tonight (Monday), and the number of young players, he'd certainly add quality. "I know he was here, but nothing is done. I've got most of the players I want now though. We'll have to wait and see." Carruthers was involved in Villa's friendly victory over Mansfield and their defeat to Chesterfield but he was not selected for the club's pre-season tour to America, nor the trip to Holland for Saturday's heavy defeat to Groningen. The 21-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract, has not played a competitive game under Villa manager Paul Lambert. The former Arsenal trainee made 28 appearances last season for the Dons, scoring twice.
