Coventry captain eyes promotion

Captain Carl Baker is fully convinced Coventry City can gain promotion from League One this season.

The midfielder has been one of a handful of catalysts for City's turnaround in form, with his brace and assist helping the Sky Blues to an emphatic 5-1 home win over Walsall at the weekend. Coventry were tipped to be promotion contenders in the summer following relegation from the Championship but a dreadful start to the season cost manager Andy Thorn his job and saw caretaker boss Richard Shaw subsequently fail to spark a revival. Mark Robins took over in mid-September and has led the club from second-bottom in the table to their current position of 15th - nine points off the play-offs, with Coventry having won five of their last seven. And Baker told the club's official website: "We are 100 per cent convinced we can get promoted. "I have always felt like we could get promoted even when we started off very poorly. "I see the players in training so I know the quality of the players at this club. We have got great strength in depth as well because we have players who are currently not in the team but are ready to come in and do a job. "Thankfully, the gaffer has come in and got us playing the way we can play. The confidence levels are sky high at the moment and I think it was just a few little tweaks which needed to happen. "Those tweaks have made us a better, stronger team and we are now going into every game expecting to win. "Obviously, we are a little bit away but you never stop believing and the league is so tight that if you get a consistent run of results, you can be right up there."
