Charlton extend their lead at the top/Huddersfield drop points

Danny Green fired Charlton to a hard-fought win at Exeter as the table-toppers stretched their lead over second-place Huddersfield to nine points. Chris Powell's Addicks now look nailed on for promotion back to the Championship after the midfielder's second-half goal finally broke the Grecians resistance in a 1-0 success at St James Park. Charlton's nearest rivals Huddersfield were unable to keep pace at the top, despite another strike from hitman Jordan Rhodes as Lee Clark's men drew 1-1 at struggling Tranmere. Rhodes, who has now hit 13 goals in his last seven games, made it 27 strikes in 25 League games to give the Terriers the lead, but Adam McGurk rescued a point for Les Parry's men. Three quick-fire goals in the first 29 minutes set play-off chasing Brentford on their way to a thrilling 5-2 win over Wycombe at Griffin Park. A fantastic hat-trick from Gary Alexander - which makes it 12 League goals this campaign - plus strikes from San Saunders and Toumani Diagouraga leaves the Chairboys, who netted consolations through Ben Strevens and Dave Winfield, deep in relegation trouble.

Fine double

Rochdale moved off the bottom of the table thanks to 3-0 win over Bury - Ashley Grimes' fine double inspiring John Coleman's side to a crucial three points, with Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro also on target. Hartlepool dented Carlisle's bid to reach the play-offs, but boosted their own cause with a thumping 4-0 home success over the Cumbrians. A double strike from the 17-year-old Luke James - excellent throughout - and further goals from Antony Sweeney and Colin Nish completed the rout, though Lee Miller's first-half sending-off with the score at 2-0 did not help the visitors' cause. Craig Morgan's sending-off after just three minutes got Preston off to the worst possible start and Yeovil took full advantage to move out of the relegation zone - a brace from Andy Williams securing a 2-1 success. North End hit back through defender Clarke Carlisle and, though Paul Huntington was sent off for the hosts late on, the Glovers held on. And finally, an own goal from Leyton Orient's Terrell Forbes midway through the first half gave Colchester a 1-0 win and all three points at Brisbane Road.
